Just in the last few days, Rebekah has really started communicating a lot more. We have been working on teaching her a few sign language signs so she can tell us what she wants instead of just whining (which gets old really fast). The main one we've been working on lately is "please." To say please in sign language, you put your hand on your chest. Normally, you also rub your chest in a circular motion, but we adapt that for babies! We've been trying to teach her "please" since she was about 6 months old, so we were excited when she started doing it on Friday. The "please" is still combined with something of a whine, but it is getting better. Now she says please for everything she wants.... the trick, at times, is figuring out what it is she wants. Soooo we are now working more on other signs like "food, cup, and more." A lot of things seem to finally be clicking in her little brain, and it is fun to watch her develop.
Her verbal vocabulary is starting to increase some too. Just today she started saying "boo, dog, and ball." She talks ALL the time, and it's usually pretty obvious that she knows what she's talking about. We're just not quite sure about most of it yet. =)
In this video you can see Rebekah saying please, barking back at the street dogs (who are nearly ALWAYS barking), blowing kisses, waving "hi", and making the sign for "all done" (moving both hands in a downward motion).
