Rebekah at 3 1/2

Yes, this is quite late in coming. I realized that I'd better hurry and get this posted before Rebekah turns four! We've been a little preoccupied with life in recent days, but life is going to get even busier in just a few more weeks when little sister arrives....
So Miss Rebekah at 3 1/2 plus....is quite the character as always. The last several months or so have been an interesting time in training her, and she has tested us out in different ways along the way. It has sometimes been difficult to know how much of her whining, complaining, and disobeying are a result of insecurities stemming from our transient life, so we have tried to be sensitive to that while still being consistent in discipline. But even though there have been difficult moments, Rebekah is ever a bundle of energy and excitement, and she lives life to the fullest! She is such a joy to have in our family!

Rebekah has been in a stage recently where she absolutely loves letters and numbers. The lady in the family we stayed with on the west coast (Jan-May) homeschools her nephew, so Rebekah would often ask for one of her letters or numbers books (little preschool workbooks) so she could "do school" too. =) She has learned to write her name, as well as "Mommy," "Daddy," and a couple of other short words.
Rebekah also loves doing projects like the one above where she is decorating her "house" with scraps of paper that she has cut and glued. She loves to color, paint, and do pretty much any craft I suggest. I'm not very creative when it comes to things like that, and she often has much better ideas than I do as to what she would like to create!

She also loves playing games, and has gotten pretty good at UNO, although with games like Candy Land and Memory, we still have to remind her that she has to play by the rules... not just the rules that would help her win! Of course, kicking around a soccer ball with Daddy is always a big hit too!
We have entered the "why" stage! She asks tons of other questions as well though - many of them very thoughtful questions that take quite a bit of thought to answer. She wants to know everything from how graham crackers are made to how babies are made, and asks why demons used to be angels and why babies sometimes die....and much more. She could literally ask questions constantly if we let her. So it's always a challenge to find the line between keeping our sanity by not allowing constant questions, but also not stifling her curiosity and desire to learn. I'm beginning to understand why parents need so much wisdom. =)
Rebekah is becoming a big girl in many other ways. Her pronunciation of words is much clearer than it used to be. She's finally gotten the hang of her "th" sound, and most sounds she actually says correctly these days. She never ceases to amuse us with her vocabulary. Often we will hear her use a word (in the correct context) that we didn't even know she knew. Usually we discover later that it's a word she's picked up from some story we read a day or so earlier!
Rebekah is learning how to do many more things on her own, and takes great pride in helping mommy wherever she can. She always loves helping me cook and bake - especially if there is something yummy to lick! She's learning how to fold and put away laundry and sweep the floor. She just recently learned how to button buttons, and she's learning how to get herself cleaned up in the tub without help. I'm hoping that she'll also be able to buckle her own seat belt before her sister arrives. =)
It is hard to believe that our firstborn will soon be four-years-old, AND that she will soon be the big sister to two younger siblings! She takes her job as big sister very seriously, and is extremely excited about having a baby sister. She's convinced that when she turns four, she'll be able to change Daniel's diaper. Maybe she can at least encourage him in his potty training endeavors. =)
We are so very thankful for our little lady. What a treasure and joy she is!
