Thursday was quite the day for our little man. Rebekah and I were doing school when I realized that Daniel had been playing quietly by himself for quite awhile. TOO quietly. I sent Rebekah to check on him, and heard her say soberly, "Oh, Daniel." I knew that wasn't good, and was almost afraid to go see what had happened. Rebekah had left a bunch of her stuff out on her bed (stuff that she's supposed to keep high on the shelf in her closet), and Daniel had found it and decided to paint his own nails. He had succeeded (somewhat) in painting his nails...and hands, and arms, and shirt, and Rebekah's bed! I could tell he wasn't just trying to paint everything though - he was really trying to paint his nails. The polish on the bed and his shirt was just dripped there - not painted there on purpose. His hands were almost solid pink, and there were stripes on his arms.
Since fingernail polish is almost impossible to remove from cloth, I was quickly attempting to get it out of his shirt and R's bedspread. While I was in the middle of that, I turned around and Daniel was in his chair at the table, salt shaker in hand, dumping it all over his placemat.
After those two incidents, I decided it might be safer to spend the rest of the morning outside in our carport. I was hoping to keep the house relatively intact! When we came in at lunchtime, Daniel was the only one of the four of us who came in dirty and with scraped knees.
Later that same day, when I was getting him ready for naptime, I sent Daniel to get on his bed and wait for me. When I walked into the bedroom, I was greeted with the sight of Daniel with a green crayon in hand, attempting to color himself... in certain strategic places which shall remain nameless.
All of that in less than three hours the other morning! But then he is two-years-old and is exploring his world. He wasn't trying to be naughty or defiant at all; he was clearly just trying things out to see what would happen. Isn't there a way for boys to learn and experiment without making such a mess?!
Lest you think Daniel's adventures were limited to just one day, I have one more Daniel story to share. Last night I walked past the kids' bathroom after they had gone to bed and saw Daniel standing beside the toilet. I went to see what he was doing, and saw him pulling his stuffed Curious George out of the toilet! He was giving George a bath in the toilet...which, incidentally had not been flushed. Oh my.
We definitely have a boy on our hands. Oh my. There's nothing to do but just love him! He definitely causes a lot of extra work sometimes, but he sure is sweet!
