4 1/2-Year-Old Rebekah

Rebekah is becoming such a big girl. In many ways, she is 4 going on 14! Although at 32lb she is only 2lb/ 1kg heavier than her brother, she definitely has him under her thumb. There is no doubt that she is our firstborn! She loves to talk and has endless questions and comments about everything that goes on in her world. Sometimes it is hard to keep up! The amazing thing is that she remembers most of the answers we give her!

She loves helping with Hannah and with things around the house. Recently she told me, "Today I want to do all the housework that you usually do." When I described to her exactly what that meant, she said, "Well, maybe when I am seven or eight I will be able to do all that." Her current favorite thing to do cleaning-wise is dust, but she also enjoys sweeping. She has great fun feeding Hannah when I let her, and she also loves to hold her - as long as Hannah will put up with it. =)My sweet girls

Rebekah is all-girl. She loves jewelry, dresses, nail polish, dolls, princesses, the color pink - anything girly. I really don't know where that came from. It must just be the way she was wired because those of you who know me well know that she certainly didn't get it from her mother! She loves to dress up and look pretty. Often she will emerge from her room wearing a dress, pink dress-up shoes, and several toy necklaces and rings. She's our girl and we love her!

Rebekah is also a planner. I do know where that came from! Just the other day she was planning her birthday cakes...for the next 7 years. Yes, she was choosing her cakes up through age 11! (Sini Aunty, this girl has work for you to do!) Anytime she starts a project, she plans it out first - none of this flying by the seat of your pants. She knows what she wants and she knows how she's going to make it happen. She even has a certain order in which she does her morning chores each day (basically getting herself ready for the day). It's a rough day in the Waldock home if she has to do them out of order for some reason!

We started homeschooling Rebekah this past December. We had actually planned to wait until June (when the school year begins in India), but Rebekah was so excited about learning and kept asking when she could start "doing school," that we went ahead and got started. We are using A Beka's K5 materials, and as of right now she is about a third of the way through K5 and loving it. She is doing very well with reading. Her personal goal is to learn to read "fast enough to read Daniel a story." She loves reading and wants to read to him, but he doesn't have the patience to sit there and listen to his sister carefully sound out every word!

Rebekah has also been REALLY big into coloring lately. For the past couple of months, that has been her favorite pastime by far. She will often spend hours coloring and drawing. It seem that the more intricate the design, the more she loves it. Sometimes she draws such intricate designs that it takes her days to color it all in!

Overall, Rebekah is a sweet, happy 4-year-old who is growing up far too quickly. Don't know what we would do without her!
