The pool at our guest house was the big highlight of our time in Thailand. I think the kids would have spent just about all day every day in the pool if we'd let them. We went almost every morning and late afternoon to avoid the harsh tropical sun on sensitive red-head skin!
Rebekah's goal for herself at the beginning of the week was to "learn to swim." She worked hard, and we were actually surprised at how far she came in achieving that goal. You can see some of the progression in the video below. The last clip was from the day before we left.
Daniel and Hannah were initially quite timid in the water, even though they loved being at the pool. They were content to play in the kiddie pool, and afraid even to have an adult take them in the "big pool." By the end of the first couple of days, however, Daniel discovered that if he wore an inner tube, he could float in the deep water without sinking. He quickly became very confident, even jumping in on his own - just as long as he had his inner tube!
Hannah loved playing in the kiddie pool, especially when there were other children to play with. She was very afraid of the deep water at first. She didn't even want Nathan or I to hold her in the big pool. Finally near the end of our stay she gained confidence and was willing to be taken for "rides." She even began to enjoy floating in her inner tube around the big pool - as long as Mommy was close by.
