Our Lion Cub

When people here in India see babies or cute little kids, there's only one thing to do: pinch their cheeks! Most people aren't very gentle about it either. Rebekah has had her cheeks pinched hard enough to make her cry on a few occasions. She has always been a good sport about it though, sometimes turning her head away from the pinchers, but putting up with it pretty well...until now....

Yesterday Rebekah came shopping with her mom and grandma. We were in several different shops throughout the course of the morning, so of course Rebekah came into contact with quite a few cheek pinchers. She handled most of it with a good deal of grace, but after an entire morning of cheek pinching, she decided she'd had enough. We were in a fabric store, and while grandma picked out material, Rebekah played with some crinkly paper one of the clerks had given her. Several of the shopkeepers stood around watching her for awhile, but finally one of the ladies came over and gave both cheeks a good hard pinch. Rebekah let out a loud yell of protest, almost like a roar, letting everyone know that she did not approve of having her cheeks pinched! Our little lion cub. =)

I wasn't very successful in holding back a chuckle. Although I don't want Rebekah to make a habit of screaming at people who pinch her cheeks, I have to admit that I was rather proud of my daughter for finally standing up for herself!
