On (and around) the Trains

This wasn't Rebekah's first time on a train, but it was definitely the longest time she had ever spent on a train (see our blog for more details). She got bored and restless at times, as did we all, but she really did very well for the most part. She had plenty of books and toys to play with, and having six adults to entertain and be entertained by, helped significantly too. It seemed like Rebekah's main frustration with the train was that she couldn't be down walking around like she is used to doing. She also didn't sleep as well as she normally does, but then I don't think anyone sleeps extremely well on trains. She did well though, and seemed to enjoy the extra time with her Waldock grandparents and with "Uncle Sam" and "Auntie Marie" (two of our co-workers here in Bangalore).

One of Rebekah's beds on the train -- most of the time she slept with either Nathan or myself. We traded off because the person sleeping with Rebekah didn't get much sleep. One night we tried putting her on a suitcase between the two bunks, but that didn't last too long.

One especially boring morning, Nathan made a hammock for Rebekah by tying my shawl onto the chains of both bunk beds. She thought it was the greatest thing, and had a blast playing in it. She even fell asleep in it for a little while. Later, though, she discovered that she could roll over and climb out, so that was the end of the hammock.

"Hi!"

From Delhi to Dehra Doon, we were on a train with regular seats. Rebekah got to sit in her own seat for a little while, and she was pretty excited about that as you can see!

On our way back to Bangalore, we had to wait awhile in the train station before boarding the train. It was almost Rebekah's bedtime, but it had been a very busy day and she still hadn't had a chance to eat her supper. I decided to just feed her there in the station in her backpack so she could go to sleep when we got on the train.

For those of you who haven't noticed, Rebekah is VERY easily distracted. In the pictures you can see the people watching her, and her watching them. It wasn't an easy thing feeding her with dozens (possibly hundreds) of people shoving past us, but she did get her whole meal in somehow. Mom Waldock stood in the "line of fire" for me so people wouldn't knock me over as they walked by!

I am thankful that Rebekah is a really good little traveler. She has her moments - as do we all - but her congenial traveling attitude will serve us all well during her childhood as a traveling MK!

We cannot belive that little Rebekah is already travelled around so much. We were wondering how the train rides would go...but it looks like she did fine! Notice how she is soaking in all the sights and sounds around her! Adventerous baby!
