Big Kid Stuff

In the midst of settling in to a new routine, new home, etc., Rebekah and Daniel have begun some new things of their own. Rebekah has started school, and Daniel has started potty training!

Now, I know. . . this really isn't the best time to start either of those things. Just a great way to make a crazy time of life a whole lot crazier! But it was time.

Rebekah has been so excited about learning, and kept asking and asking when she would get to "do school." I was afraid that if we waited much longer the excitement would die down. So we spend about 45 minutes each morning working on letters and numbers, and she is enjoying it. She's picking up on things a lot faster than she was half a year ago, so I can tell that she's ready.
Daniel was ready for potty training too. Two months before Hannah was born, Daniel was really interested in the potty and all that goes along with that. I knew that was the perfect time to get him started, but with Hannah soon to arrive, I just didn't have the energy at that point. I also knew, however, that I wouldn't have time right after Hannah was born. I just hoped that the extra time in diapers would make him tired of them, NOT more attached to them!
So our house is a busy one - even more so than normal, but the new ventures have actually met with a good deal of success so far. Rebekah is enjoying school and is learning quickly. Daniel has been in big-boy underwear for 3 days now, and as of today is having more successes than accidents. The first day he had accident after accident and didn't even want to sit on the potty. The 2nd day all he wanted to do was sit on the potty, but nothing happened for a long time. Finally he went in the potty, and was thrilled with all the praise from Mommy and Rebekah, and of course with the treat he got for going. As of noon today, however, he's gone in the potty 3 times and had only one accident. He's getting it! And big sister is loving being a helper by "reading" Daniel stories while he sits on the potty and encouraging him along the way. Gotta love those kids. =)
